Summary

This project focusses on creating more democratic resilience in Armenia, specifically in the more sensitive border areas of Tavush and Lori in the North. There is an extended focus on creating resilience for human rights defenders and civil society actors, which are under pressure in Armenia as in the entire region. This is done by strengthening media literacy and democratic education amongst youth and those working with youth.

Contextual background

Tavush and Lori are two regions in the North of Armenia hosting many refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh. These regions face a unique set of challenges: economic hardship, displacement, limited access to reliable information, and social tensions between host communities and displaced populations. Misinformation and fake news further erode civic trust and participation, especially during politically sensitive periods such as the Parliamentary elections to be held in June 2026.

On Democracy Today

Democracy today is an Armenian organization which has longstanding experience with Human Rights education, with a particular focus on creating local impact in Armenian rural regions. They have experience working with partners from all continents and have locally worked with over 150 communities throughout Armenia. They also have a strong focus on the participation of women in piece and human right’s work.
